Somali Success Day

somalisuccessday.jpg

I wrote and wrote and wrote last night about the Somali Success Day held last week at Thames Valley University and when I clicked Save I wasn't actually connected to cyberspace. Let's just say aye aa cuney or whatever and I don't have the heart yet to repeat myself 18 hours though having passed.

Had a lovely day though! Well done to Kudu Arts, Aim Higher, TVU, the students and the speakers. The image I put together from photographs I took of the day will have to speak for itself for now.

It looks like you had fun that day. The faces I see in your pictures tell a story of success indeed... When is the next one going to be held? I can take pictures too, no?

It was an invitation-only affair I gather and I'm in no position to say haa or maya. :-)
Plans afoot for a similar day in the summer inshallah. I think more groups should take up this sort of thing- inspiring students with the stories of those who have been halkeer, done waxaas.

Er, mixing my English and Somali. -)

^^ I like the mixing-up of Somali iyo Af-Ingriiska. Sounds very hip :). Anyway, waa sidaad sheegtey...more people need to take on the role of inspiring students. I guess we've had much talking already and now much 'doing' is what is required most.

Are these young people studying theatre/cinematic arts? The images seem to point that way. If so, do they have sites where they show their work?

Paradise, you've gotta stop reporting things after they happen!

I want to be forewarned.

LoL @ FOC.

Paradise, sounds like it was a good event. Thanks for the images.

Aya, the students were about 15 years of age and were there to see examples of Somalis in the Arts. The faces above are those of the adults. I didn't want to highlight the kids.

FOC, if it helps I'll let you know beforehand where I go that you can't. LoL. I was one of the speakers so I snuck in through the front door.

Firefly, no problem. I will write more when I am not half asleep...zzz...

It does not follow that because we do not subsidize smoking, we should not regulate unhealthy activities. Costs and savings are not the only variable. The fact that obesity creates costs is merely an additional reason to regulate it, not the only one. The main reason is its danger to an individual. You are dismissive of subsidizing smoking precisely because of this moral intuition. ljqlwv ljqlwv - louboutin schaussures.
